Technology Development & Commercialization
Lawson Business Development assists in the identification, protection, development and commercialization of medical and health-related research discoveries made by our scientists within our research labs and clinics. Lawson Business Development strives to establish and maintain mutually beneficial research collaborations, partnerships and/or licensing relationships with private sector partners willing to invest in further development and translation of our discoveries into products and/or services. The intellectual property portfolio maintained by Lawson consists of more than 120 active patent applications and filings including 50 issued patents, and has been more than 75% utilized to generate research and technology-related commercialization revenues for Lawson and our scientists. Nine affiliated start-up and/or spin-off companies have been established based on research and discoveries made within Lawson.

Lawson Business Development has partnered with Research Western and Robarts Research Institute to form WORLDiscoveries™, the new Business Development arm of London's extensive Research network and the bridge between local invention and global industry. WORLDiscoveries™ draws upon a mix of industry connections, sector-specific market knowledge and business development expertise, to help researchers and local inventors commercialize their discoveries through licensing and new company spin-offs. A number of opportunities are currently available for research collaboration, partnership and/or licensing to industry partners and receptors in the biotechnology, imaging and medical device fields. Individual opportunities include animal models and preclinical markers of disease (e.g., schizophrenia, prostate cancer), cellular, antibody, peptide and siRNA-based strategies and approaches to the diagnosis or treatment of autoimmune diseases and disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, cystic fibrosis, transplant rejection and cancer), MRI and 3D ultrasound visualization technologies and applications, research tools for frozen tissue embedding and sectioning and devices and systems for minimally-invasive robotic surgery.
