Care of Older Adults

Care of Older Adults is a new theme area with the Aging, Rehabilitation and Geriatric Care Research Centre. Researchers are involved in a myriad of local, regional, national and international studies. Dr. Maggie Gibson, a Veterans Care Program psychologist and Care of Older Adults theme member is working with the Canadian Coalition for Seniors Mental Health, the Public Health Agency of Canada  and others to raise awareness of seniors' unique vulnerabilities and potential contributions in the area of emergency preparedness and response. Dr. Iris Gutmanis, theme leader, and Dr. Gibson are members of the newly-established Canadian Dementia Knowledge Translation Network. This five-year project, established through a $4 million grant through the Cognitive Impairment in Aging Strategy and Partnership led by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research Institute of Aging, will be dedicated to finding new knowledge about dementia, including symptoms and treatment and to communicate this knowledge more effectively to care providers and those living with dementia.

The group collaborates with many individuals from across the across the city and region with a common goal of enhancing the care of older adults.
