Transmission Electro Microscope Facility
The Transmission Electron Microscopy facility is operated jointly between the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (for research services) and the Department of Pathology
(for clinical services) at Western. For research, the facility is operated on a cost recovery basis with full technical support, available on a contract basis. The Philips Electron Microscope
410 is equipped with high resolution film output (either 35 mm or plate film). The facility provides materials for negative staining and thin sectioning techniques of prokaryotic
and eukaryotic cells, as well as immunoelectron microscopy. Specimen preparation equipment includes embedding chemicals and equipment, ultramicrotomes, and a carbon-coater for
electron microscopy grids. A fully-operational darkroom for developing of film and printing of electron micrographs from negatives is also available.
