Our Mission

Our mission is to understand the basis of wellness and the dysfunctions of the body and mind that result in disease. We test and deliver health care innovations for the benefit of Canada and beyond.

We provide ongoing knowledge and education for our trainees, health care professionals and society.

It is important that we maximize the contribution of research within the defined mission and vision of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph's Health Care, London (St. Joseph's) and in collaboration with The University of Western Ontario (Western) and other research organizations.

Vision

Lawson will be pivotal in preventing the onset and reducing the burden of disease through the acquisition, evaluation and translation of new scientific knowledge.

Year Established

2000 through the merger of the Lawson Research Institute (LRI), London Health Sciences Centre Research Inc. (LHSCRI) and the Children's Health Research Institute (CHRI).

Number of Research Personnel

Over 1,200 principal investigators, technicians, support staff and trainees.

Number of Worldwide Business and Industry Partners

More than 150, including large corporations such as Bayer, Eli Lilly, Fujisawa, GE Medical, GlaxoSmithKline Inc, Medtronic, Merck Frosst Canada, Novartis, Pfizer, Schering.

Current Funding

More than $60-million CDN per year in peer reviewed and industry sponsored contract research funding.

Publications

More than 900 peer-reviewed original publications per year.

Space

More than 225,000 square feet of laboratory space and extensive clinical trial space dedicated to basic and applied clinical research across seven hospital sites: London Health Sciences Centre - University Hospital, Victoria Hospital, South Street Hospital and St. Joseph's Health Care London - St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkwood Hospital, Regional Mental Health Care London and St. Thomas.
